The qualification provides an introduction to teaching and aims to meet the needs of a range of trainee teachers, such as:

• individuals not currently in a teaching or training role
• individuals currently teaching and training (including those who have just begun teaching and training)
• individuals currently working as assessors who wish to achieve a qualification that provides an introduction to teaching.

At NCCE, we deliver our AET qualifications with the premise that the AET candidate intends to undertake teaching in the areas of childcare and education. However, the final qualification will provide you with the opportunity to teach any subject of your choice.

This qualification does not require you to attend a placement. However, you will be required to attend a Microteach day session with other students. These will be held at various dates and venues around the country, or online.
The Award in Education and Training course is broken into two 6-week Blocks, plus the final Microteach Block, as follows.

Block 1: Understanding roles, responsibilities and relationships in education and training: The purpose of this unit is to enable the learner to understand the role and responsibilities of a teacher in education and training and the relationship between different professionals in education and training.

Block 2: Understanding the principles and practices of assessment: The aim of this unit is to assess the learning and development practitioner’s knowledge and understanding of the principles and practices of assessment. ‘Practitioner’ means anyone with a learning and development responsibility as a whole or a part of their role.

Block 3 Microteach: Understanding and using inclusive teaching and learning approaches in education and training. The purpose of this unit is to enable the learner to understand and use inclusive teaching and learning approaches to meet the needs of their learners. It includes how to create a learning environment that engages and motivates learners, and the planning, delivery and evaluation of inclusive teaching and learning. It requires the learner to deliver a microteaching session and to evaluate their own delivery practice.

At NCCE you can choose to deliver your Microteaching session to an audience provided by NCCE or an audience of your choice. Your microteach will need to be booked, organised, planned, and then observed by your NCCE tutor.

The objective of the qualification is to prepare learners for employment and support them to progress to a teaching role within the workplace.

You may wish to apply to take the level 5 Diploma in Education and Training, the CAVA course or other teacher training and education routes.
