The Early Years Foundation Stage (2021) states that at least half of all staff working with children under 2 must have received specialist training that specifically addresses working with babies. In addition, the room lead must have suitable experience working with babies under the age of two years old.
This course provides the opportunity to gain the knowledge training to work with babies under the ages of two, and receive the specialist knowledge training required by the EYFS.
This comprehensive course covers the following modules, which aid to compliment and build upon your Early Years Educator qualification, in addition to bringing new knowledge to those wishing to embark on a journey working with babies in their careers.

This Level 3 Certificate in Baby Care is designed specifically for Early Years Professionals working in early years settings. It provides essential knowledge and skills to ensure quality care for babies under two years of age, aligning with the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).
The qualification is structured into six mandatory units, each focusing on different aspects of baby care:
Understand Communication and Behaviour in Babies:
This unit aims to deepen the learners' understanding of how babies communicate their needs and emotions. Participants will learn to identify different cries, the importance of responding to babies' needs effectively, and the roles natural reflexes and comforters play in the development and comfort of infants.
Safe Sleeping Environments for Babies:
Focusing on the critical aspects of infant safety during sleep, this unit covers the risks associated with unsafe sleeping environments, including the prevention of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). Learners will be equipped with the skills to create and maintain safe sleeping conditions and understand the factors contributing to SIDS.
Prepare the Setting for Safe and Secure Care of Babies:
This unit is designed to teach learners about maintaining a hygienic and secure environment. It includes training on the cleaning and disinfection of baby care areas, risk minimisation, and the effective use of cleaning equipment.
Understand Medication and Immunisations for Babies:
Participants will gain insights into the policies surrounding the administration of medication to infants, understand the scheduling and purposes of immunisations, and learn how to manage common medications in a baby care setting.
Feed, Wean, and Offer Nutrition to Babies:
This unit addresses the nutritional needs from birth to two years, exploring topics such as breastfeeding, formula feeding, safe food preparation, and the introduction of solid foods. It aims to provide learners with the knowledge to support a variety of feeding methods and dietary preferences.
Understand Provision for Nappy Care and Toileting Routines:
Covering essential practices in nappy changing and the principles of toilet training, this unit teaches hygienic practices and helps learners understand the signs that a toddler is ready for toilet training, including different methods and parental involvement.
You will have access to a comprehensive platform of interactive online learning materials, which you can engage in at your own pace. In addition, you can book tutorials with your tutor over Zoom as and when you require these. You will engage in a range of assessment tasks to build your portfolio of evidence, which is assessed by your NCCE Tutor and then Externally Quality Assured by our awarding organisation, NCFE CACHE. You will be required to set targets for your PLP (Personal Learning Plan) that are then provided to you on your portfolio page. You will need to aim to work towards the dates that you have set, but we understand that life happens and your dates can be adjusted- we work flexibly with all our learners here at NCCE.
NCCE offer the opportunity to spread the cost of your studies interest-free for a duration of up to 6 months, helping to promote a low-cost alternative to to student finance, that has hefty interest added to your loan.

This ensures that you have practical experience and a foundational understanding of early years care, which is essential for contextualising the learning material and assessments.
There are no minimum hours required to log for this programme, but some practical evidence is gathered, such as setting up a safe sleep environment.

NCFE is an awarding organisation recognised by the qualification regulators for England (Ofqual), Wales (Qualifications Wales) and Northern Ireland (CCEA Regulation). This is an unregulated qualification and is not a nationally recognised qualification. This qualification has been accredited as a Customised Qualification and we have benchmarked the qualification’s learning outcomes and assessment criteria at Level (using a national framework’s level descriptors) to allow you to demonstrate the difficulty and depth of study. On completion of the Customised Qualification, learners will receive a certificate of achievement. The certificate is evidence of the knowledge and skills gained by completing the qualification. This qualification has been accredited by NCFE under the Customised Qualification and the certificate of achievement will be issued directly by NCFE.
