The Early Years Educator Diploma is the qualification that is recognised by child care settings. Take this qualification to progress your career in early years education and settings, including nurseries, children's centres, pre-schools and school foundation units.
Kick start your rewarding career by learning about the importance of play in learning, child development and your role in caring for children. This course has a very practical element to it, meaning you will need to complete quite a few tasks within a voluntary or paid placement. The knowledge parts of your course are studied via a range of optional online group sessions, on-demand learning module accessed online, and through on-going support with your tutor through our learning portal.
Complete your portfolio over a period of 50 weeks with a range of creative tasks and projects, designed to enhance your knowledge and prepare you for the amazing role of the Early Years Practitioner. You will also have onsite assessments that will be arranged towards the middle of the course. This will include a range of observations and a professional discussion. This will be held at your placement setting with an assessor from NCCE’s tutor team.
This qualification is suitable for learners who work, or wish to work, with children from birth to 5 years old in a variety of settings. The qualification prepares learners for employment as Early Years Educators, enabling them to work with children from birth to 5 years and gain knowledge of children aged 5 to 7 years. It develops the knowledge and skills required to work with children from birth to 5 years together with an understanding of the expected development of children aged 5 to 7 years. The qualification also provides opportunities for the confirmation of competence for learners working towards Early Years Educator status.
It is not essential for learners to be in employment to undertake this qualification, but they must have access to a suitable workplace to be able to meet the work experience requirements.

During this block, you will consider the frameworks and initiatives that are in place to support children's healthy lifestyles- such as through nutrition and physical activity. You will also look at the role of the practitioner in providing physical care for young children.
Block 3: Safeguarding and Welfare (Units 1.5 and 2.2). This block covers the fundamental issues of safeguarding and child protection and your role as practitioner in ensuring that key processes and procedures are followed and why. You will also explore your role in the handling of medicines and supporting children who are feeling unwell or preparing for a stay in hospital.
Block 4: Legislation in the Early Years (Units 2.3, 2.4 and 2.5). This block covers the legal requirements in terms of promoting equality and diversity, health and safety and effective and safe partnership working.
Block 5: Emotional and Social Development (Units 1.4 and 3.12). Within this block, you will consider the role of the practitioner in supporting the emotional well-being of children in your care. This will include theoretical understandings of attachment as well as the importance of the Key Worker approach within the early years of childhood.
Block 6: Young Children's Play (Units 3.1, 3.2 and 3.4). Within this block, you will explore the exciting world of play. You will gain an understanding of a child's right to play and what children gain from playing. As a practitioner, you will develop an awareness of when play should be planned for, and when children should be left to create their own worlds of play.
Block 7: Young Children's Learning (Units 3.5, 3.6 and 3.7). This is a challenging block, that considers your role in supporting children's mathematical and literacy development as well as how you can prepare children within your setting to make that big transition into school.
Block 8: Observation, Assessment and Supporting Additional Needs (Units 3.13 and 3.14). Within this block, you will explore a range of observation and assessment types that can be used in the Early Years, and why assessment is important in supporting children's progression as well as finding out if a child needs some intervention or support.
