Minimum Age Requirements: This qualification is suitable for learners aged 19+. Please note, the minimum age for Forest School leaders is 21. This is a Forest School Association and Department for Education requirement.
Entry Requirements: If you have not studied at Level 3 previously, we ask that learners complete the Level 2 Forest School programme first.
Placement Requirements: You will need to be able to demonstrate your activities as a Forest School Assistant, which will include working in a suitable environment to assist a more senior practitioner in Forest School curriculum delivery. You must be able to: Demonstrate the safe use of a range of hand tools, demonstrate the tying of a range of knots, erect a temporary shelter using a tarpaulin and ropes, demonstrate the safe siting, lighting, management and extinguishing of a fire at Forest School
The primary purpose of these qualifications is to develop knowledge and/or skills in the subject area of Forest Schools. This level 2 qualification will provide you with an introduction to the Forest School ethos and learning in the outdoors. This qualification is part of a suite that the knowledge, understanding and skills needed for learners to take part in Forest School activities. They enable learners to experience the world beyond the classroom as an essential part of their learning and personal development, and have been designed in accordance with the guidance outlined in the Learning Outside the Classroom Manifesto 2006.

Syllabus
Unit 1: Forest School Programmes and the Woodland Environment
This is a knowledge-based unit where you will gain an understanding of the structure of the woodland environment, including identifying flora and fauna that you may come across in your practice.
Unit 2: Learning and Development at a Forest School Programme
In this unit you will learn about the relevant theories of learning and development and their application to a Forest School programme, understand how a Forest School programme can support holistic development and learning, and understand the impact of behaviour on learning and development at a Forest School programme.
Unit 3: Practical Skills for a Forest School Programme
During the unit you will learn how to facilitate a range of woodland skills appropriate to a Forest School programme. You will show how to facilitate campfire management appropriate to a Forest School programme.
Unit 4: Planning a Forest School Programme
This is your opportunity to plan your Forest School Programme! During the unit you will prepare and plan your programme in readiness for delivery.
Unit 5: Delivery of a Forest School Programme
The unit will allow you to deliver and assess your Forest School programme. You will have the opportunity to evaluate and reflect on your practice.

This qualification provides a mechanism for you to recognise and develop your skills and establish personal, learning and employment goals.
You may choose to progress onto a higher level qualification, including:
• Foundation Degree in Environmental Conservation Management
• BSC Rural Land Management
