The TQUK Level 3 Diploma for the Early Years Educator is regulated by Ofqual.
The qualification has been developed in line with the updated guidance for the Department for Education (DfE) for the Early Years Workforce to meet the updated requirements for Early Years Educator staff. This qualification meets the requirements of these updates for learners starting their Early Years Educator qualification from the 1st of September 2024.
The Level 3 Diploma for the Early Years Educator is the required qualification for individuals seeking to work at a level 3 ratio within an early years setting. This qualification meets the Department for Education and Ofsted requirements for Early Years Educators and is classed as full and relevant by the governing bodies. The Level 3 Diploma for the Early Years Educator meets the qualification element of Early Years Educator Status and the level 3 ratio.
By undertaking this qualification, learners will gain the knowledge and skills required to be proficient and competent within their roles as an Early Years Educator, allowing them to work as a qualified practitioner with children from age birth – five years. Learners will undertake units of study that relate to babies’ and children’s development, safeguarding and child protection, transitions, school readiness, wellbeing, and health and safety. Learners will also have the opportunity to reflect upon their own work and learning journeys and consider career development opportunities across the sector.
The learner can seek employment within private nurseries, local authority nurseries, home-based childcare (nannies, childminders), play groups, pre-schools, school nurseries, Reception classes, school Foundation units, and other settings working with babies and children from birth to age 5 years.

Placement Requirements
You must have access to a suitable placement to complete this qualification. A suitable placement is an Ofsted registered setting that follows the EYFS foundation stage framework or own home country’s equivalent early years framework. Children in the setting will be between the ages of birth to five years.
Examples could include:
Temporary childcare such as holiday clubs, afterschool clubs, or creches are not suitable for this qualification.
Learners can be employed or in a voluntary placement where they will evidence a minimum of 350 hours in practice.

Does this qualification allow me to work in the early years ratio?
This qualification is mapped to the DfE competencies the September 2024 Early Years Educator status requirement for level 3 Early Years Educators. During your studies, you will be able to work at level 2 in ratio, and after completion you will be able to work in level 3 ratio in the early years as guided by the EYFS. This qualification is confirmed as Full and relevant and on the Early years Qualification List.
Does an assessor come and visit me?
An assessor will visit you in your setting and undertake a number of observations and professional discussions of your practice. They will also gather work-based evidence pieces and talk to your work-based mentor to confirm that you are working in practice to the standard of an Early Years Educator.
Do I have lessons with my tutor?
You can book as many 121 sessions as you need with your tutor. There are also a number of taught webinars across each unit, to aid breaking down the concepts and related assignments into manageable loads.
Are there any deadlines?
You will be required to set targets for your PLP (Personal Learning Plan) that are then provided to you on your portfolio page. You will need to aim to work towards the dates that you have set for yourself.
Do I get a textbook?
There are no set textbooks for this qualification as yet, as it is brand new. However, you will have access to your learning system where you will interact with digital, online resources to support your learning. There are options to purchase topic-specific textbooks at your own discretion. The qualification developer of this qualification aims to set a textbook out, which will be available to students as soon as this is completed.
Do I have to attend a centre?
You do not need to attend lessons in person. Lessons are conducted on Zoom or via recorded webinar and the assessor will visit you in your own setting.
