Within this course you will gain an understanding of the background and theory behind Lego Play and Lego therapies- including its origin and theoretical perspectives, research and links to children's development.

Additionally, you will have the opportunity to learn the concepts of Lego Play sessions, and how this is put into practice. The course also provides a 6-week example of starter and main activities that you can use to implement your programme.

Course Syllabus:

Completed online, self-paced with no time limit for completion.

Module 1: An Introduction to Lego and Brick-based Interventions. Participants will gain an understanding of the history of Lego and how the toy can be used to support children's holistic development and a range of social skills. Participants will also look into Lego and brick interventions for autism, ADHD, anxiety disorders and mindfulness.

Module 2:
Theory Behind Lego as a Communication, Personal and Social Development Aid: In this module, participants will gain a deeper understanding in Lego play as an intervention and the discovery of Lego Therapy as a technique, and how this has evolved into a known intervention practice. Participants will learn about the various findings from Lego Therapy researchers, and finally the use of Lego to aid language and social development.

Module 3:
Key Concepts to Prepare for Lego or Brick Play Interventions: This module brings the theory that has been learned into practice. Prior to building your Lego Play scheme, you will learn the key concepts to be able to do so. Participants will learn how to plan a Lego session, including timings, regularity, and what should be included within each session. You will also learn about the roles of the 'Engineer', 'Supplier' and 'Builder' in your Lego groups, and how these roles support the children's communication and social development. Additionally, participants on this course will learn about assessment of the Lego sessions and how to measure its impact, as well as the role of the adult during the sessions.

Module 4: Lego and Brick Play Interventions in Practice: In this final module, participants will learn about and have access to 6 starter activities and 6 main session activities, and consider how these are used in practice. These activities can be used in your own sessions, and you can build your own bank of activities based upon what you learn in the course. You will also look at some one-to-one PSED interventions that can be used with children and young people.

Final Assessment: There will be a final assessment at the end of this test, which allows you to assess your understanding of what you have learned. Successful completion will award you a certificate of completion.
