The Counselling Diploma Level 3 is the qualification that will set you on your pathway to becoming a qualified Counsellor. Counselling is an amazing profession to move into and this qualification will allow you to gain membership with bodies such as ACCPH. Membership will then allow you to gain insurance and the you will be able to work as a practicing counsellor.
The qualification will develop your counselling skills, allowing you to progress your knowledge of the different approaches to Counselling. You will look at the different techniques and the theorists that has developed this understanding. Techniques will includes the Humanistic Approach, Psychodynamic counselling and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.
This qualification has been developed with The National Occupation Standards in Counselling, Health and Social Care, Mental Health and the National Health Service knowledge and skills framework. It will provide you with a nationally recognised qualification in Counselling.
The course allows you to take a hand-on approach to the subject, ensuring that you gain practical skills in each of the counselling areas. Over the duration of the course you will develop your knowledge and ability through a portfolio of assignments, video-based practical evidence, professional journals and a research project.

Although you are not required to attend a formal placement, this qualification requires that you complete some practical counselling sessions. You may complete these sessions with a willing volunteer.
The Counselling Diploma course is undertaken over a period of 30 weeks and the course is structured across 5 six-week blocks.
Block 1: Developing counselling skills. In this block learners will have an opportunity to identify, practise and develop a range of interpersonal and counselling skills. On completion learners will be aware of the skills required to initiate, maintain and conclude a counselling skills interaction.
Block 2: Theoretical approaches in the use of counselling skills. In this block learners will have an opportunity to understand and evaluate key elements of the main theoretical approaches to counselling.
Block 3: Working ethically with counselling skills. In this block, learners will have the opportunity to gain an understanding of the context within which counselling skills and referral processes can be used whilst maintaining ethical standards.
Block 4: Counselling skills and diversity. In this block learners will have an opportunity to appreciate the implications of applying counselling skills in a diverse society.
Block 5: Counselling skills and personal development. In this unit learners will have the opportunity to reflect on their personal development and the way in which they interact with others.

You can use this qualification to progress into further study and employment as a counsellor by registering with a body such as the ACCPH. You may wish to gain insurance and set up your own counselling practice.
This qualification alone does not allow registration with the National Counselling Association of the BACP, but you will be able to progress to higher level counselling qualifications within other institutions and universities, depending upon the university requirements.
