Entry Requirements: L2 Literacy and Numeracy preferred

Minimum Age: 18 Years

Duration: 34 weeks of guided learning blocks (plus time for the research and placement tasks) Duration of enrolment us for up to 18 months.

This course is aimed at experienced play workers who have a wide knowledge and understanding of children and young people and a deep appreciation of play work principles and practice.
This qualification provides in-depth information about the role of the Level 5 play worker when working with children and young people between the ages of 4 to 16. It allows you to gain an understanding of the management of play environments and the line management of other staff. The Diploma covers the knowledge and skills needed when leading practice and supervising staff and requires you to demonstrate these in the workplace.
 
You will look at:
  • the principles and theories underpinning play work provision
  • how to work with colleagues and other key partners to develop an organisational framework for children and young people’s play
  • how to develop, manage and review operational plans for play provision
  • how to establish and develop working relationships to support children and young people’s play
  • Engage in personal development in health, social care or children’s and young people’s settings
  • how to research, design and facilitate possibilities for children and young people’s self-directed play
​To complete this qualification, you must be employed, or volunteering within a playgroup setting to demonstrate the practical skills needed. Please note this does include aspects of a managerial role.
​Block One - You will understand the principles and theories underpinning play work and engage in personal development in health, social care or children’s and young people’s settings.
 
Block Two - You will understand and demonstrate how to work with colleagues and other key partners to develop an organisational framework for children and young people’s play
 
Block Three - You will understand and demonstrate how to develop, manage and review operational plans for play provision.  
 
Block four - You will understand and demonstrate how to establish and develop working relationships to support children and young people’s play.
 
Block Five - You will understand and demonstrate how to research, design and facilitate possibilities for children and young people’s self-directed play.
Learners can progress into employment in a Level 5 role in Play work settings or even go onto complete a degree in Play work.
